Welcome!

Are you looking for a therapist or mental health coach who is relatable, down-to-earth and grounded in evidence-based approaches? Whether you’re dealing with depression, anxiety, addiction or another mental health concern, Spectra Psychology can help. Mental health issues are at an all time high due to the unexpected new pressures that Covid-19 has brought into our lives. It is much easier to overcome these obstacles when we are nurtured, supported and challenged by someone that has our back. Perhaps this is a good time to seek online psychotherapy or mental health coaching from a caring and compassionate mental health professional.

I am particularly passionate about helping 2SLGBTQ+ individuals conquer their fears and master the art of self-acceptance, using evidenced-based approaches to therapy and coaching.

About Joël

I believe that people can overcome their obstacles, no matter how big, with the guidance of an experienced and well-trained mental health practitioner. I am a living example of this. I grew up in a low income household and had to leave home at the age of 16, when I came out as gay. I had a lot of unprocessed trauma and struggled with mental health and substance use issues for several years. However, I was able to turn things around by accessing the right support, studying the very issues that I struggled with and ultimately becoming a mental health therapist.

Today, I’m a masters-prepared therapist (MSW/RSW) and mental health coach and I am passionate about helping people get through their mental health challenges and reaching their fullest potential. I have worked in various counselling programs and have extensive training in evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches to therapy. I place utmost importance on building a strong alliance with you, so we can work collaboratively to achieve your treatment and recovery goals.

Testimonials

I knew I needed something and this has been so beneficial. I was able to leave my house this week and my anxiety was minimal, which is huge for me. It's been almost a year since I could leave my house without feeling like I was going to throw up and be on the verge of a panic attack the entire time.

Sympathetic. Honest. Real. It felt down to earth but also down to business.

Joël really helped me. He was able to adapt his style to my personality perfectly.

I'm able to recognize and manage emotional thoughts and feelings much better, [which has] been a huge benefit to my stress levels and sleep. I would spend many sleepless hours reliving my day and thinking about what I could have done differently, what I was going to do the next day or just feeling bad overall. Now I'm better able to talk myself down.
